In a notable legal development, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Freddie Blay and his son, Kwame Blay, have filed separate defamation lawsuits against Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The lawsuits allege that Ablakwa made defamatory statements implicating them in the alleged theft of state property.
Kwame Blay’s suit targets solely Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. He asserts his distinct identity from his brother, Kwaw, and disassociates himself from any dealings with Polo Beach Club or its affiliates. Kwame Blay states that he has never interacted with Loic Devos Jnr, currently in a legal dispute with Press Xpress, his brother’s business. He claims Ablakwa’s allegations of his involvement in state land theft and defrauding Loic are baseless, damaging his business and reputation. Kwame Blay also criticizes Ablakwa for publicly discussing a private court case, potentially prejudicing public opinion against his brother.
In the second lawsuit, Freddie Blay names Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Media General, and Johnnie Hughes as defendants. He alleges that Ablakwa’s statements were malicious and politically motivated, aiming to tarnish his reputation. Freddie Blay further accuses Media General and Johnnie Hughes of disseminating false information, with Hughes’ program “Johnnie’s Bite” exacerbating the defamation. Blay contends that these actions have severely damaged his and his family’s reputation.
