Over 90 Teachers Suspended In The Eastern Region Of Ghana

Over 90 teachers in one district of the Eastern Region, who have been at their posts for one to two years, have been suspended for almost three months, leaving most of the schools in the district highly understaffed.

Despite these teachers having the rightful documentation, they received surprise letters from the district director on March 1, 2024, stating that they have been suspended for failing to produce certified appointment letters from the regional director of education.

Meanwhile, these teachers were allegedly assured of their appointment letters after they had completed their registration, and money was allegedly taken from them for the letters. The situation has left most of the schools, especially in the villages of the district, highly understaffed. Some schools are left with only the headteacher for the primary level.
