Armed Robbers Target Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project Security

Armed men have robbed security officers protecting contractors working on the Ofankor to Nsawam project. The incident, which occurred at the Ofankor railway bridge section, has been reported to the Ofankor Police Station by the contractors.

The robbery targeted night security officers and other individuals present at the site. Senior Project Manager Abdulai Mahama stated that the security officers were robbed of their phones and personal items and were tied up by the robbers early Sunday morning. The incident occurred when the officers confronted robbers attempting to loot a broken-down truck from Burkina Faso on the road.

Mahama explained that the Ofankor to Nsawam junction road frequently experiences robbery incidents. He detailed that the head of internal security alerted him to the situation, where faulty foreign trucks often attract robbers. Around 12:45 am, a black Toyota Camry approached the security team, and during the confrontation, the robbers tied up the officers and attacked two other men in a car, stealing their money and phones before fleeing.

Mahama noted that such incidents are common along the Ofankor stretch, particularly when vehicles break down. The contractors have reported the incident to the Ofankor police, who have assured them that an investigation is underway.
