Labourer Sentenced to Three Months for Theft in Tarkwa

A labourer named Abraham Amissah has been sentenced to three months of hard labour by the Tarkwa District Court One for stealing GH¢515 and a Nokia Lumia mobile phone valued at GH¢1,500. Amissah, who pleaded guilty, was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Charles Owusu Nsiah.

The incident occurred on March 19, 2024, when Amissah was suspected of stealing a mobile phone from Asana Fuseini, the owner of a food joint visited by the complainant, Madam Faustina Odoom. Despite denying the theft initially, Amissah threatened to insult Asana at night for accusing him wrongly. On March 23, 2024, Asana discovered her phone and cash missing from her home, leading to a tip-off that implicated Amissah.

On March 25, 2024, Asana and the complainant spotted Amissah at Tamso school junction with the stolen phone. Although he tried to flee, Asana recovered her phone from his pocket. Amissah later returned the SIM cards but claimed he lost the phone while drunk. The police arrested him following this admission, and he was subsequently convicted.
