The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with violent clashes that left one person injured during a commissioning ceremony for the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) at Apam in the Central Region on September 16, 2024. The suspects have been identified as Alhaji Kassim Mohammed, the NDC Gomoa West Constituency Chairman, Stephen Cobbinah alias Bonjour, and Joseph Mensah alias Kofi Kokor.
The suspects, along with others who are currently wanted, were armed with offensive weapons and disrupted the event, leading to violent altercations between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). During the chaos, an NDC supporter was reportedly struck on the ear with a carjack.
Further reports suggest that Kassim Mohammed allegedly brandished a firearm during the confrontation, leading to his immediate arrest. The three suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the disturbances.
