A UK hospital has urged staff to stop referring to babies delivered at the hospital as being “born” male or female.
Instead, the hospital suggested using the term “assigned” when referring to a newborn’s gender in order to “accurately” describe what happens in the delivery room.
The James Paget University Hospitals Trust, which is part of the National Health Service, issued the statement — which many deem controversial — as the US and UK attempt to normalise discussions surrounding gender fluidity.
