Mob Burns Man Alive in Ghana Over Allegations by Fetish Priest

Six individuals have been apprehended by the Ahanta West Municipal Police Command in the Western Region for allegedly setting ablaze a 60-year-old man, Isaac Ansah, in the Achonwa community. The incident occurred on June 27th, 2024, following accusations from a local fetish priest that Ansah had presented the names of 14 community members to be sacrificed.

The tragic event unfolded after a community meeting where the priest relayed his claims to the elders. Despite Ansah’s attempt to explain that he had given the names to seek forgiveness and return to the community after previous banishment, the mob responded with violence.

Frank Eshun, Ansah’s nephew, recounted how community leaders, including Nana Ojandi, the Caretaker Chief, and Assemblyman Godfred Cudjoe, were among the arrested. The mob tied Ansah with ropes, stoned him, and burned him with car tires and petrol. Eshun expressed the family’s devastation and called for justice, emphasizing the brutality and illegality of the mob’s actions.

The police have since taken the suspects into custody for further investigation. Ansah’s body has been sent for an autopsy, and his family hopes for a peaceful burial and prosecution of those responsible.
