A self-proclaimed chief and businessman, Nii Kotey Susubribi, also known as Nii Isaac or Kotey Nii Quaye, has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for his involvement in a fraudulent land transaction. Nii Susubribi, who claims to be the chief of Abehenase near Amasaman, was found guilty of charges including threats of death and fraudulent transactions.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, delivered the sentence as the convict tearfully awaited police escort to begin his imprisonment. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, detailed the events leading to the conviction.
In 2003, the first complainant, Alfred Abosu, a businessman residing in Achimota, legally purchased 1.869 acres of land in Abehenase from the Amah Asor family. The transaction was facilitated by the accused person’s late senior brother, Kotey Nii Kwei. Mr. Abosu subsequently obtained a Land Title Certificate (No. GA 22047 dated December 2005) covering the land and constructed two single rooms on a portion of it for his caretaker, Korsi Tondey.
For years, Mr. Abosu faced no issues until February 21, 2015, when Nii Susubribi began claiming ownership of the land. By March 2015, the convict, along with a group of thugs, started threatening Mr. Abosu’s caretaker, Korsi Tondey, with death if he did not vacate the land. Fearing for his life, Mr. Tondey left, abandoning the property.
Taking advantage of the situation, Nii Susubribi fraudulently sold a portion of the land to unsuspecting buyers, including the second complainant, Freeman Kofi Owusu, for GH¢42,000. A search by the Land Registration Division of the Land Commission in Accra confirmed Mr. Abosu’s legitimate title to the land.
