Kofi Mensah, a 40-year-old trader in Amasaman, has been arrested for repeatedly reconnecting his property to the national power grid after being disconnected by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Using an unauthorized meter, Mensah not only reconnected his own supply but also extended illegal connections to other customers, posing significant risks to the community.
The ECG discovered the illegal connections during routine checks and promptly reported the matter to the Amasaman Divisional Police. Authorities emphasized the dangers of such illegal activities, including potential fires and technical issues within the power grid, and warned of strict legal actions against offenders.
This incident underscores ongoing challenges with power theft in Ghana, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and public awareness to prevent similar cases. The ECG continues to urge the public to report illegal connections to ensure community safety and system reliability.
