In a developing story from the Okaikoi North Constituency in Ghana, the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service has apprehended approximately twenty individuals suspected to be armed bandits affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This incident follows a series of violent acts attributed to the same group. Just yesterday, they allegedly attacked the office of sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Theresa Awuni, resulting in injuries to several individuals present for voter registration. Sources within the Police regional command have indicated that senior NPP officials are actively involved in attempts to secure bail for the detained individuals. Notably, some of those arrested arereportedly wanted by authorities for offenses including robbery and murder.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official statement regarding this incident, prompting questions about the disparity in treatment compared to previouscases, such as that involving Hon. Collins Dauda.
The unfolding situation in Okaikoi North Constituency underscores concerns about political violence and the rule of law in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. BBC News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as the story unfolds.
